The University of Auckland Business School Owen G Glenn Building 12 Grafton Road Auckland New Zealand
The Department of Accounting and Finance is one of the largest in The University of Auckland, with enrolments of over 1,500 equivalent full-time students. The department is divided into three areas of Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, and Finance, teaching courses primarily for the BCom, BCom(Hons), BBIM, PGDipCom, and MCom programmes. In particular, the BCom(Hons) programme has been highly successful and gives staff an opportunity to teach in their area of specialisation and supervise research students. Staff from the department also teach in courses administered by Executive Programmes (primarily the MBA degree and the Graduate Diploma in Business).
The department is one of the leading departments in Accounting and Finance in the Asia-Pacific region. It is renowned for its research excellence and innovative teaching.
Students majoring in accounting through their study in the BCom or BBIM degrees can satisfy the academic requirements for obtaining membership to two professional accounting bodies, the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) or CPA Australia. They must also complete professional competency and practical experience requirements before they can join as members. Membership to NZICA allows you to use the Chartered Accountant (CA) designation, while membership to CPA Australia allows you to use the Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) designation. The department is proud to be associated with both these professional accounting bodies.
The Head of Department is currently Professor David Hay.
