Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ)

In 2014, the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) amalgamated with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA) to become Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ). CA ANZ has over 100,000 members based in Australia, New Zealand and around the world. Its strategy is for members to be the trusted leaders in business and finance.

The University of Auckland Business School is a CA ANZ accredited tertiary institution and the BCom and Master of Professional Accounting (MProfAcctg) are recognised pathway programmes for provisional membership. It is possible to structure your programme to satisfy the academic requirement for admission to CA ANZ.

Typical options include:

  • BCom (3 years)
  • MProfAcctg (18 months)
  • BCom conjoint degrees (4 or 5 years)

CPA Australia

CPA is one of the world’s largest accounting bodies. Its vision is to grow its presence in terms of representation on international bodies and influence the profession globally.

The Business School’s undergraduate degrees, and the Master of Professional Accounting (MProfAcctg), are also accredited by CPA Australia and the programmes are recognised as meeting CPA Australia's Associate membership entry requirements.

It is possible to structure your programme to complete the academic requirements within a three-year BCom or 18-month MProfAcctg by taking a small set of additional courses following the completion of the BCom or the MProfAcctg degrees.

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)

ACCA is a global body for professional accountants with members and students in over 170 countries. Its mission is to provide opportunity and support to its members throughout their careers in accounting, business and finance.

Papers that provide exemption

To find the list of courses that may exempt students from certain professional requirements, the ACCA website features an Exemptions Calculator. This tool allows you to enter the name of your institution, graduation year and programme you completed to find exemptions from ACCA’s Foundation level or Qualification exams, based on your prior learning.

Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)

CIMA is the world’s largest and leading professional body of management accountants. Its mission is to help people and businesses to succeed in the public and private sectors. CIMA prepares people for a career in business. It teaches skills for strategic advice, managing risk and making key decisions.

CIMA has more than 218,000 members and students operating in 177 countries. They work at the heart of business in industry, commerce and not-for-profit organisations. Its syllabus is designed to deliver a strong understanding of all aspects of business so its members can contribute in many areas of an organisation.

To find the list of courses that may exempt students from certain professional requirements, visit the CIMA website and select "Starting CIMA" from the main menu. Next, select “Starting CIMA” and then "Exemptions" from the page list, followed by "Search the exemptions database" and use the search fields to find the list of papers for the University of Auckland by qualification.
