A Master of Commerce with Honours (First Class or Second Class First Division), or an approved equivalent from some other recognised university. BCom(Hons) First Class Honours from the University of Auckland may also qualify.

We welcome enquiries from MBA graduates considering a PhD, however, bridging courses may be necessary.

PhD scholarships

University of Auckland  

The University of Auckland offers a range of scholarships for doctoral students. Please note that many of these scholarships require you to have been accepted into the PhD programme before you can apply for the scholarship. Domestic students with a grade point average (GPA) of 8.0 or above, from their most recent New Zealand university qualifying programme, will be guaranteed a scholarship. Māori and domestic Pacific students with a GPA of 7.5 or above, from their most recent New Zealand university qualifying programme, will be guaranteed a scholarship.

Business School

If your PhD thesis may have relevance and potential impact on New Zealand business or business development in a globalising world, you should apply for the Barry Spicer and Owen G Glenn PhD Scholarships. Winners receive up to $30,000 a year for up to 3 years and complete their PhD in the heart of New Zealand’s business capital.
