Biography

Michael D Myers is Professor of Information Systems and Head of the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management at the University of Auckland Business School.

His papers have appeared in a wide range of journals, conferences and books. He won the Best Paper award (with Heinz Klein) for the most outstanding paper published in MIS Quarterly in 1999. This particular paper (Klein and Myers, 1999) has been cited over 3000 times. He also won the Best Paper Award (with Lynda Harvey) for the best paper published in Information Technology & People in 1997.

Professor Myers currently serves as Senior Editor of Information & Organization, as Senior Editor of Pacific Asia Journal of the AIS, and as Editor of the AISWorld Section on Qualitative Research. He previously served as Senior Editor of MIS Quarterly from 2001-2005, as Senior Editor of Information Systems Research from 2008-2010, and as Associate Editor of Information Systems Journal from 1995-2000.

He also served as President of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) in 2006-2007 and as Chair of the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group 8.2 from 2006-2008. He is a Fellow of the Association for Information Systems.

Professor Myers has held visiting/part-time appointments at Claremont Graduate University, University of Southampton, Georgia State University, Salford University and currently at Loughborough University. The AISWorld Section on Qualitative Research that Michael edits has won many awards. Visit the ISWorld Section on Qualitative Research website.

    The rise of the digital native (those who have grown up in a world surrounded by digital technologies) along with the growth of ubiquitous information systems potentially represents a paradigm shift for research in information systems
  • How IT is transforming organisations and industries
  • Qualitative research methods in information systems
    This research stream is concerned with developing and applying qualitative research methods to the field of IS
  • Social and organisational aspects of information systems
  • Success and failure of information systems
    This research stream is concerned with how information systems can be successfully developed and implemented
