About the department
Information technology is now an integral part of the business world. The “new information systems professional” is a people-person, but can also “talk technology”, solving important organisational problems.
Welcome to the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM).
In the 2011 QS World University Rankings for the subject Computer Science and Information Systems, The University of Auckland was ranked fortieth in the world. This means that ISOM is one of the leading departments in the Asia-Pacific region. The full list of 2011 rankings for the category of Engineering and Technology is available from the QS World University Rankings website.
The department has strong links with industry partners such as Microsoft, SAP, Oracle and many others. Our information systems and supply chain graduates are sought after by leading international and New Zealand firms.
In ISOM, you are encouraged to put what you learn into practice. Leading by example, the department developed the world’s first web-based computer-supported learning system (CSL aka “Cecil”). Originally designed and maintained by ISOM staff and students, CECIL is now the enterprise learning management system for the University.
