About the department
The Department of Management and International Business includes over forty staff members and seventy research students, as well as executives in residence, research affiliates and our alumni and industry associates.
The Department of Management and International Business (MIB) brings together management, international business, strategy, leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship and business growth, Māori enterprise, as well as the study of employment relations, work and organisations, and business and society - all in a single exciting department.
We were rated the number one management department in New Zealand in the 2006 PBRF research evaluation, and each year we publish over one hundred new research articles and books by staff, over fifty theses and research reports by students, and hundreds of practical and applied contributions to assist enterprises and their managers in New Zealand and globally. Our staff and students are drawn from over 25 countries, and we have an active programme of international visitors, post-doctoral fellows and research associates.
In addition to our research record, MIB is one of the University's top teaching departments, with well-regarded majors in both the Business School (Management, International Business and from 2012 Innovation and Entrepreneurship) and the Faculty of Arts (Employment Relations and Organisational Studies).
At the postgraduate level, the department hosts the school's largest and most successful PhD programme, and the Master of International Business programme, as well as Postgraduate Diplomas and Masters degrees in both Arts and Business. We are also the lead department in the Graduate School of Enterprise, and provide the core of the MBA and MMgt, as well as specialist diplomas in Human Resource Management and Māori Enterprise.
In the community, we are noted for our leadership in the SPARK Entrepreneurship Challenge and SPARK ASPIRE for social entrepreneurship, as well as our project and internship based courses in software innovation, biotechnology commercialisation, international business and entrepreneurial ventures.
Welcome to the department!
