The 2011 Family Business Forum is a collaborative effort between the Business School's Family Business Research Group and a number of industry partners and supporters.

The Family Business Research Group (FBRG) was established at The University of Auckland Business School five years ago and is made up of researchers focused on understanding the intricacies and challenges that surround family businesses.
Research that has been done by FBRG includes:
- Intergenerational entrepreneurship in family business.
- Governance guidelines for family business.
- Strategic decision-making in family business.
- Governance in small-medium enterprise (SME) family business.
- The use of external business advice by entrepreneurial New Zealand family businesses.

The Employers and Manufacturers Association (EMA) Northern
The Employers and Manufacturers Association (EMA) Northern has a key role in supporting its member organisations in growing and developing their businesses. This is achieved through services such as:
- Employment relations advice.
- Occupational and workplace safety advice and training.
- Employment consultancy.
- Skills training and education courses.
- Events and networking opportunities.
- Publications, media statements, submissions on proposed legislation and occasional campaigns such as Fix Auckland, to improve the environment in which to do business.
EMA provided the initial funding to establish the Family Business Research Group at The University of Auckland Business School and has been working closely with the group to enhance the learnings and capabilities of its family business members.

The ICEHOUSE
The ICEHOUSE is a business growth centre that includes business growth programmes for SMEs, a business incubator for start-ups and New Zealand’s largest group of angel investors. It is a collaborative partnership between The University of Auckland Business School, The Boston Consulting Group, Telecom and Gen-i, BNZ, Ernst & Young, HP and Microsoft.
It was established in 2001 in recognition of the importance of SMEs to the New Zealand economy. It works with a range of SMEs, from start-ups to established multimillion dollar enterprises, with the vision of being the place that turns entrepreneurial companies into international successes. The ICEHOUSE’s mission is to get alongside people who want to transform their companies and help to grow their talent and our country’s prosperity.
Over 2,000 entrepreneurs and business owners have already experienced The ICEHOUSE with new expertise and skills, valuable global network connections and investment pathways.
