Entry requirements
This section provides a brief description of what you need to gain entry to your chosen programme of study.
English language proficiency
All participants need to be fluent English speakers. Students not having English as a first language may be asked to complete an English language proficiency (IELTS) exam and achieve an overall academic score of seven (7) before commencing study.
For specific programme entry requirements, please refer to the following sections:
To gain entry to our programmes you should have:
- Any bachelors degree and gained at least two years’ fulltime work experience deemed relevant by senate or its representative, or ;
- Have completed the requirements for a professional qualification and gained at least two years’ fulltime work experience deemed relevant by senate or its representative, or;
- Have gained at least five years’ fulltime work experience deemed relevant by senate or its representative, and ;
- Performed acceptably in the mandatory mathematics refresher.
- A personal statement.
- Two references.
- A current CV.
To be considered for entry, candidates must have:
- A Postgraduate Diploma in Business (with a B+ or better average) or its equivalent.
- At least five years appropriate experience.
Direct entry requirements for MBA Year One
- A good first degree or professional qualification and at least three years management experience deemed relevant by senate or its representative.
- A personal statement.
- Two references.
- A current CV.
- Performed acceptably in the mandatory mathematics refresher.
- An interview.

Entry requirements via the Postgraduate Diploma in Business for MBA
If you have completed The University of Auckland Postgraduate Diploma in Business in Administration with an average grade of B+ or better and have at least three years managerial experience deemed relevant by senate or its representative, the following requirements for entry to the MBA programme apply:
- A personal statement.
- Two references.
- A current CV.
- An interview.
