Remote access

If you are using a laptop or are off-campus you can access your files, the internet and a range of software through Terminal Services, a remote access system provided for Business School students.

Operating systems supported by Terminal Services

The following operating systems are supported with Terminal Services:

  • Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 3.
  • Windows Vista with Service Pack 1.
  • Windows 7.

Download the latest service pack for your Microsoft Windows operating system

Apple Mac is not supported however you may try to access our remote service using the Microsoft Remote Desktop client for Mac.

Download the Microsoft Remote Desktop client for Mac

Connecting to Terminal Services

You need to download a file (the connection file) to connect to Terminal Services. Your session will disconnect after 60 minutes of non-activity and reset after 3 hours.

If you prefer to configure the client yourself, you will need the following information:

Server name: studentts.com.auckland.ac.nz
Port: 3389

Download the Terminal Services connection file

Software available for students

Business School computers provide you with a great range of programmes and applications for your study and research needs.

Due to Microsoft licensing restriction Microsoft Office is not available to students off campus however Star Office is available for your use.

Note that application settings are not saved after log off.

For more information visit our student software page.

Internet browsing

Internet Explorer access is provided however you can only browse websites within the University's network. External internet access is not available via the Terminal Services connection.

File access

The Terminal Services connection will provide access to the J,Q and R drives. You can copy between these network shares and your local computer. We also provide access independently of the Terminal Server service. This is a web based access tool available from https://student-files.com.auckland.ac.nz

Printing files

Printing via Terminal Services - whether you on campus or at home - is the same as printing from any Business School computer.

However when you are off campus, you will have to allow printing from the Remote Desktop Connection client, and select your local (eg. home) printer.

For more information visit our printers and printing web page.
