An X-stream start to 2014

11 March 2014

BCom(Hons) graduate Saskia Ruscoe has been selected as one of three recent graduates to take part in the New Zealand Stock Exchange’s inaugural graduate programme.

Saskia’s new role begins in the data team, which manages the data flowing in and out of the market and ensures the correct outlets and organisations are informed of relevant information in a timely manner. Her role looks after the post-market closing processes, ensuring the market is accurate and organised for the next trading day.

“As graduates, we are in for a treat, being able to move around the different markets and be a key part of new announcements and projects in store for NZX. NZX is more diverse and spread as a business than one would think of an exchange. Such a wide array of business activities allows a variety of people and skill sets.

“The people and environment in the Wellington Head Office are superb and they have excelled at nurturing and including us in all facets of the market and atmosphere. They were genuinely keen on our arrival and see us as the future and encourage our involvement. I cannot recommend this graduate programme more! New Zealand and NZX is in for a really exciting and productive year – watch this space!”

Saskia completed a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and specialised in International Business for her honours year. Her honours dissertation addressed the role of government in venture capital market development. Saskia credits her time at the Business School for preparing her for X-stream, the fast-paced live trading system the NZ Stock Exchange runs on. “Thankfully the commitment and passion required for honours at the University of Auckland Business School has been excellent preparation for a key role as an analyst in the high-pressure daily running of the country’s exchange.”
