Our research centre

The Centre for Applied Research in Economics (CARE) undertakes research aimed at improving the prosperity and welfare of New Zealand. Our research themes span competition economics and regulation, urban and transport economics, financial and monetary stability, training and labour markets, and well-being and happiness.

Methodology: Translational, collaborative, impactful projects

We concentrate our research on specific projects. Projects are either client-driven contracts or CARE’s own research initiatives. Read more about these projects at our research.

Our projects translate research from the frontier of academic economics to the real world of practical problems. We then translate our findings back to practitioners, the public and the academy. All research is evidence-based.
