Biography

Dr Michael S W Lee is a Senior Lecturer of Marketing at The University of Auckland Business School. He is an award winning teacher of marketing strategy, marketing research, consumer behaviour, advertising and promotions, and contemporary issues in marketing. 

Mike has published and/or guest edited special issues in The Journal of Business Research; Consumption, Markets and Culture; European Journal of Marketing; Advances in Consumer Research; Journal of Consumer Marketing; Journal of Consumer Behaviour; Journal of Macromarketing; Journal of Public Policy and Marketing; Journal of Consumer Affairs; Psychology & Marketing; and Journal of Product and Brand Management. His research interests are in brand avoidance, consumer resistance and activism, and, most notably, anti-consumption where he is the Director of The International Centre of Anti-Consumption Research (ICAR). Mike maintains active links with industry, having collaborated with ASB, Aquaticus, Cavalier Bremworth, Giltrap group, Virgin Airlines, 2Degrees, Wrigley’s, Experian and Mosaic, TNS, NZTE design 360 programme, Richards Partners, Steinlager Pure, The True Honey Company, OMD, Frucor, The New Zealand Rugby Union, Harley Davidson Australia, and NZ Beef and Lamb. He has also provided expert commentary to more than 250 media engagements, ranging from Campbell Live, Fair Go, The Paul Henry Show, NewsHub, Seven Sharp, Breakfast TV, TV1 and TV3 news, to Radio Live, National radio, News talk ZB, to The NZ Herald, Dominion post, Sunday Star times, the New York Times, The Huffington Post, the BBC, and the World Advertising Research Center.
